When buying a property, the question of opening a local bank account arises quite often. This is true both for people who are planning to move to Phuket and for owners who have bought property to generate income.
It is possible for a foreigner to open an account for personal use in Thailand, but this requires a reason. Let's see what documents are required and how to use the account.

- Bank of Ayudhya (Krungsri)
- Bangkok Bank
- Siam Commercial Bank
- Kasikorn Bank
- Krung Thai Bank
Please note that opening an account is only possible with personal presence.
To open an account, you will need a long-term visa. It can be a working/family/ student/pension visa etc. It is also possible to open an account if there is a contract for the sale of real estate.
The bank may request a Resident certificate, which you can obtain from the Immigration Service. Or a letter from school, if you have a student visa.
